YouTube is taking a major step toward making video search more intelligent and conversational. The Google-owned platform has begun testing a new AI-powered search feature called “Ask YouTube” that delivers guided, step-by-step answers combining text summaries with relevant video clips, YouTube Shorts, and full-length videos.

This experimental tool aims to transform how users find information on YouTube — moving beyond traditional lists of video thumbnails to more comprehensive, multi-format responses that feel closer to a helpful conversation.

As of April 28, 2026, Ask YouTube is in a limited testing phase and is currently available only to:

YouTube Premium subscribers in the United States
Users aged 18 and older

To try the feature, eligible users must opt-in through YouTube’s experimental hub (youtube.com/new). Once enabled, a new “Ask YouTube” button appears in the search bar, complete with prompt suggestions to help users get started.

Google has indicated it is working to expand access to non-Premium users in the future, though no specific global rollout timeline has been announced. The current test is scheduled to run at least until early June 2026 in some reports.
